Morning: Departure from San Salvador & Joya de Cerén 🏺. We begin our journey traveling northwest to Joya de Cerén, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dubbed the "Pompeii of the Americas," this site is an extraordinary snapshot of ancient Mayan life. Unlike pyramids or temples, these are the perfectly preserved homes, pottery, and gardens of a common village, buried under volcanic ash around 600 AD.
Walking through the protected structures offers a poignant and intimate look into the daily routine of the farming class—a unique perspective rarely found in other Mayan sites.
Afternoon: Tazumal & Transfer to Santa Ana 🗿. We continue to Tazumal, the most important and well-preserved pre-Columbian ruin in El Salvador. Marvel at the impressive ceremonial center and the massive, stratified pyramid. Your guide will unlock the secrets of the sophisticated Pipil culture and their influence on the region.
Accommodation: Overnight Stay in Santa Ana. We check into a comfortable, centrally located hotel in the historic city of Santa Ana, preparing for the next day's physical challenge.
Full Day: Santa Ana Volcano Hike & Panoramic Views 🌋
Adventure: This is the flagship day! We embark on a moderate but rewarding trek up the majestic Santa Ana Volcano (Ilamatepec), the highest volcano in the country.The trail culminates in an awe-inspiring view of the smoking, brilliant turquoise crater lake at the summit. The contrast between the sulfuric fumes and the electric blue water is genuinely unforgettable.
Nature: From the top, you are treated to a spectacular 360° panorama, including the shimmering Lago de Coatepeque and the Izalco volcano complex. After the hike we move to lunch with the lake view.
Overnight Stay in Santa Ana. We return to Santa Ana or Coatepeque lake, for dinner deserved rest and a taste of local cuisine in the evening.

Morning: Malacatiupán Sulfur Waterfalls 💦 We venture to the incredible Salto Malacatiupán, a series of cascading thermal waterfalls renowned for their sulfuric content. The water, naturally heated by volcanic activity, is believed to have therapeutic and healing properties.
Spend the morning swimming in the hot, mineral-rich pools nestled amongst the river stones. It’s a perfect, invigorating contrast to the previous day's hike. This is a truly off-the-beaten-path experience!
We finish exploring Ruta de las Flores
Ataco: Wander through the vividly painted streets and colonial buildings, admiring the colorful murals that tell the story of El Salvador's history and folklore. This is the most photogenic town on the route!
We delve into the local coffee culture, visiting a plantation (finca) to learn about the bean-to-cup process and sample some of El Salvador's renowned high-altitude coffee.
At night we visit Hotsprings Santa Teresa, relaxing time for a couple hours and tipical dinner at the town.
The Famous Ruta de las Flores 🌺 Today, we explore the celebrated Ruta de las Flores (Route of Flowers), a stunning circuit of charming colonial highland towns.
Juayúa: Explore the town square, especially if it's a weekend when the famous Gastronomic Food Festival is held on weekend but we can do the 7 waterfalls hike or Chorros de la calera hike on the mornig.
Apaneca: Discover the highest town on the route, we visit the green lagoon and relax the rest of the lake.
