El PitalHighest peak in El Salvador
There is no park on the top of El Pital, there is no entrance fee nor official guides that can show you the way. The trail is very well marked and easy to follow. El Pital is one of the most popular attractions in El Salvador, there is great biodiversity and many endangered species of flora and fauna.
This cloud forest has some of the rarest plants and animals in the country, including quetzals and other endangered species. From November to February, the temperature ranges between -6 °C (21 °F) and 10 °C (50 °F) (lowest recorded, in January 1956) and in the rest of the year the temperature ranges between 5 °C (41 °F) and 20 °C (68 °F). It is the coldest place in El Salvador.
Miramundo is a tiny village close to El Pital's summit. In Miramundo you can find several hotels with nice sights of nature, the road to Miramundo is in good condition, here you can find people selling flowers, fruits and vegetables grown in this healthy environment.
La Palma and San Ignacio
La Palma and San Ignacio are 2 small towns located on the road that takes you to El Pital. La Palma is considered a tourist attraction because of the handcrafts and souvenirs manufactured by local salvadorean hands. La Palma is an excellent destination for people that want to rest the night before hiking El Pital.
There are small convenience stores at San Ignacio where you can buy water or chips, but its better if you bring yours. The uniqueness of this destination is the natural beauty of the surroundings of El Pital and Miramundo.
Bring hiking shoes with good traction. Bring insect repellent and sun block. Bring at least 1 liter of drinkable water.
No food or drinks provided by us. 10 hour tour, we start at either 6,7,8,9 am.
Overtime is offered from $10/hour and on.
